In a setback for opposition coalition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was abruptly halted on Wednesday after the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro, Abuja, cancelled the venue reservation.
The fully paid event was scheduled to introduce the ADC as the adopted political platform for a coalition of opposition forces seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, organisers were informed just hours before the event that the hotel would no longer host it, citing an unspecified “internal compliance matter.”
A message from the hotel’s management, shared online by media personality Dele Momodu, expressed regret for the last-minute cancellation, apologising for the inconvenience.
Reacting to the development, Momodu accused the APC-led government of orchestrating the cancellation through intimidation, saying, “The intimidation of opposition by a jittery government continues… due to what insiders described as fear of reprisals from APC operatives.”
Despite the disruption, opposition leaders vowed to press on, reaffirming their resolve to mount a strong challenge to the APC in the upcoming elections.
