Hilda Baci Plans to Cook 250 Bags of Rice in a Single Pot

Two years after making global headlines with her cooking marathon, Nigerian celebrity chef and former Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, is set to attempt another historic culinary feat, this time with jollof rice.

In a trending video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, Hilda announced plans to cook 250 bags of basmati rice in a single pot as she aims to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest jollof pot.

Analyzing the magnitude of the project, she revealed that the massive pot designed for the attempt measures six meters in width, 1.1 meters in height, and about 1.3 meters in depth, with a total capacity of 22,619 litres.

“I’m making the executive decision to cook 250 bags of basmati rice,” she said in the video. “The pot is 6 meters wide, 6 meters long, 1.1 meters tall, and about 1.3 meters deep. I’m sure the pot is not going to sink.”

The ambitious cooking event is scheduled to take place on September 12, 2025, and will not only aim at securing a new Guinness World Record but also serve a humanitarian purpose, as the jollof rice prepared will be distributed to feed at least 10,000 people.

Hilda Baci first rose to international fame in 2023 when she broke the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking an impressive 93 hours and 11 minutes in Lagos. The feat drew massive local and international attention, cementing her place as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated culinary figures.

Her new challenge underscores not just her passion for cooking but also her determination to use her craft to make bold statements about African cuisine, particularly the globally popular West African delicacy, jollof rice.

Food lovers and fans have already begun expressing excitement over the upcoming event, with many noting that it will once again spotlight Nigeria on the global culinary map. Social media has been abuzz with discussions about logistics, including how the giant pot will be managed, the number of chefs and assistants required, and how the food will be distributed.

Industry observers say this attempt could set a precedent for future large-scale culinary projects in Africa and beyond. Beyond the record-breaking aspect, the event has also been praised for its community-oriented approach, aiming to tackle hunger, albeit symbolically, by feeding thousands.

As preparations intensify, Hilda Baci remains optimistic. Her reputation for resilience and precision, demonstrated during her marathon cooking record, has reassured fans that she has what it takes to pull off this new challenge.

The Guinness World Records team is expected to monitor and verify the attempt, ensuring that all guidelines for the largest food-cooking record are met.

For Hilda, the event represents not just a personal milestone but also a celebration of Nigerian and West African food culture on the global stage. With the countdown to September 12 already underway, the world is watching as she prepares to stir history once again, this time, one giant pot of jollof at a time.
