Gov Ugwuanyi orders immediate reconstruction of burnt police station

Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Tuesday, paid an immediate visit to the police station set ablaze by unknown gunmen in Iwollo, Ezeagu Local Government Area of the State.

UGAMATV had reported that an early morning attack on the facility led to the death of at least four policemen.

Governor Ugwuanyi, during the visit expressed sadness over the heinous act, just as he condoled and requested to meet with families of slain policemen.

He equally ordered the immediate reconstruction of damaged police buildings, replacement of the Innoson patrol van made away by the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums and construction of barricades before the police post.

The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo was earlier at the scene of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, who was also at the scene, has ordered a discreet investigation.

The police said in a statement by its PPRO, Daniel Ndukwe that “the hoodlums, who came to the Station in their numbers, opened fire on Police Operatives on duty, but were gallantly resisted and in the ensuing gun duel, several of the assailants escaped with bullet injuries.

“Unfortunately, four (4) of the Operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries, were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while parts of the Station were set ablaze by the assailants.”
