Gombe State has emerged as the top-performing state in Nigeria for public hospital services in 2025, according to a nationwide assessment released by StatiSense.
The ranking, which measured residents’ satisfaction with the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of healthcare services in public hospitals, placed Gombe ahead of all other states across the country, highlighting the progress recorded in the health sector under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
According to the report, the assessment was based on public perception and satisfaction with services provided in government-owned health facilities, making Gombe’s top position a strong indication of growing confidence in the state’s healthcare system.
The achievement reflects years of strategic investments and reforms initiated by the Yahaya administration since 2019 to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, improve service delivery and expand access to quality medical care across the state.
Recognising healthcare as a critical driver of development, the government has prioritised the sector through extensive interventions in infrastructure development, workforce expansion, medical equipment procurement and healthcare delivery systems.
Among the major projects undertaken are the renovation, expansion and upgrading of key health facilities, including the Gombe State Specialist Hospital and the transformation of one General Hospital in each of the three senatorial districts into centres capable of providing specialised healthcare services.
The administration also reconstructed the General Hospital in Kumo and facilitated its upgrade to a Federal Medical Centre by the Federal Government, broadening access to advanced medical services for residents of Gombe and the wider North-East region.
At the grassroots level, the government implemented a comprehensive primary healthcare revitalisation programme that upgraded at least two health facilities in each of the state’s 114 political wards, significantly improving access to essential healthcare services.
Additional interventions include the recruitment and training of healthcare workers, deployment of modern medical equipment, strengthening of referral systems and collaboration with development partners to improve service delivery.
The government has also intensified efforts in maternal and child healthcare, emergency medical response, disease prevention and community-based healthcare initiatives, including the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Scheme (Go-Health), which has contributed to improved health outcomes and increased utilisation of public health facilities.
The latest ranking further reinforces Gombe State’s growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading states in public service delivery, driven by sustained reforms, strategic leadership and measurable improvements in the wellbeing of its citizens.
