A nine-year-old girl tragically lost her life on Sunday after being crushed by a tipper truck in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident reportedly occurred around Supare Junction along Supare Road. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the accident to newsmen in Akure on Monday and stated that the driver had been arrested.

“The Police Command in Ondo State regrets to report a fatal motor accident in Akungba-Akoko, which resulted in the death of a nine-year-old girl,” Jimoh said.

He explained that the girl was knocked down by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death. The vehicle has been recovered for inspection, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The PPRO extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that justice would be served. He also urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

Jimoh further confirmed that a thorough investigation has commenced to uncover the exact cause of the accident and ensure accountability.
