Senator Ibrahim Khalid Mustapha, who represents Kaduna North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Soba Ward in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the lawmaker explained that his decision was due to the ongoing internal crisis within the party.
Mustapha stated that continuous leadership disputes and numerous court cases have caused deep divisions in the party, making it difficult for him to remain an active member. According to him, the conflicts have affected the unity and direction that once characterised the PDP.
He noted that the prolonged crisis, legal battles and disagreements over leadership across different levels of the party have made it increasingly challenging for him to sustain his membership, participation and commitment.
Despite leaving the party, the senator expressed appreciation to PDP members for the support they gave him during his political career. He thanked party loyalists for their trust and encouragement over the years, describing them as a strong pillar in his journey.
Mustapha also stated that the letter should be taken as his official notice of resignation from the party.
Reports indicate that his resignation comes amid speculation that he may soon join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
