Controversial media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has suggested that religion may be hindering Nigeria’s development.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, he argued that religion has not produced the expected results in the country.
According to him, some nations that are less religious, such as Japan, appear to be more developed and enjoy a higher standard of living. He also claimed that despite Nigeria being widely regarded as a very religious nation, it continues to struggle with several socio-economic challenges.
Daddy Freeze questioned the impact of religion on the country’s progress, asking where the prosperity and love associated with faith could be seen in society. He said that if religiosity automatically brought favour and progress, Nigeria should be experiencing better outcomes.
He further stated that Japan seems to be enjoying what he described as “heaven on earth” in terms of development, while Nigerians continue to face difficulties despite strong religious devotion.
The media personality also claimed that Nigeria has one of the lowest life expectancies globally, citing recent statistics which he said put it at about 54 years. He added that Nigerians contribute significant amounts in religious offerings and tithes, sometimes more than what is paid in taxes, yet the country’s situation has not significantly improved.
