The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has said the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources as part of plans to bridge the country’s electricity supply gap.
Tegbe made the disclosure in a statement after a meeting with stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, stressing that the Tinubu administration remains committed to addressing the nation’s persistent power challenges.
According to the minister, the government’s goal is to transform electricity from a basic social service into a major driver of economic growth and national development.
He said rural electrification is no longer just about extending power lines to communities but about creating opportunities, boosting enterprise and improving livelihoods.
Tegbe added that while indicators such as megawatts generated, transmission infrastructure and household connections are important, the true measure of success lies in the economic and social opportunities that reliable electricity creates.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government agencies and the private sector to effectively close Nigeria’s electricity supply gap.
