The Obunofia ndiuno Community of Ezeagu local government area in Enugu state, has lamented over the dilapidation of their community by Erosion.
A visit to the community revealed that Erosion indeed, has destroyed most of the preexisting footpaths and motorable roads within the Obunofia ndiuno community.

UGAMATV gathered this during an inspectional visit by the Former Deputy president of the Senate, sen. Ike Ekweremadu.
The Ezeagu stake holders had drawn the attention of the Senator to the menacing effects of Erosion on their community, such that houses had begun to collapse and roads were being wrecked.

While visiting the Erosion site, Chief Chinedu Ani, mentioned that this particular gully started since 1980, however, its threatening effects became more serious in 1984, as such, the town began to make several appeals to the Federal ministry of works and other related Agencies, for an intervention, to curb the looming imperils of this erosion on time.
Then, the contract was awarded to CGC, a Chinese road construction company, they had started work, but stopped along the line, over an alleged debt by the federal government and unavailability of funding provision in the budget allocation.

In that manner, the construction of the express without an adequately managed drainage system caused the Channeling of the heavily accumulated floods from Nachi to Obunofia, into that path.
A singular reason, that aggravated the depth of the gully. Our correspondents gathered that some years back, a particular village in the town, has been displaced, a woman who was oblivious of when the flooding started, was killed alongside all her livestock since they were on the way of the flood.

Currently, the Agbaja youth president, Comr. Ebube Nebo told us that several letters had been written to all the concerned government parastatals, even the incumbent Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is aware of the situation at hand, but has given his word to visit the site and ascertain for himself after the lockdown, due to COVID-19.
In their outcry, the indigenes beseeched, Sen. Ekweremadu to come to their aid, moreso, to have a liaison with the Governor and their other representatives, and come up with a more lasting solution to the dangers of this erosion, since it looms higher with the current rainy season.
Sen. Ekweremadu had replied them with an assurance, stating that he suspend his travels, pending his discussion with the governor.

He then promised them to tackle the problem from every possible angle, Channels and agencies including an immediate conferment with the Governor, so as to arrive at a more immediate and pressing solution to the gully site.

In an interview with our correspondents, he told us that he had particularly supervised the passage of a bill with other south eastern senators, for an Agency that will oversee the effects of Erosion in the south eastern states, but it is quite unfortunate, that it wasn’t signed by the president, instead he endorsed that of the north-east.
He assuredly said that they will restructure and restrategize the bill and pass it again, with hope that the president signs it this time. This he said, can help with the early management and checking of possible erosion sites in the southeast.
