The Former Deputy president of the Senate, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu has visited the Erosion control site in Agungwu, Ugwuoba in Orji river local government area of Enugu state.
The intervention was instituted by the Deputy Minority leader, house of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, owing from the complaint from the Ugwoba indigenes.
Ugamatv learnt that earlier in August, Okechukwu had received a delegation from Ugwuoba in his Enugu Residence. They had laid a complaint about the menace of Erosion in the Agungwu part of Ugwoba.
He told them that his attention has been called to the Erosion site, stating that he had also called the Construction company in charge of the road(Arab contractors), who placed safety tapes at strategic points to avoid any unforseen occurences, the intervention proper soon begun to avert further effect of the Erosion.

However, on Monday, during the inspection, we observed that Construction had already begun in the site. Several measures were already in place to channel the water appropriately.
The Enugu-Onitsha express road has since been in a desolated state, wrecking havoc to vehicles as well as road users.
Okechukwu had stated that since Enugu-Onitsha old road was an alternative route, it’s importance has become dire, such that it is one of the safest passages to from Enugu into Anambra state, it also serves as a bypass to the Port Harcourt and Abia state.

The road was already awarded and awaiting construction, the horrid effect of Erosion in that particular area, almost marred the initial plan, if not for the timely intervention.
Although, the Road project is being detered by the Rainy season and the emergence of COVID-19.
While the rainy season is impedeing some of the construction procedures, the emergency of COVID-19 has caused most of the foreign workers to return to their home countries, thereby reducing the optimal work force in the site.
The Project Manager of the Arab contractors, however, affirmed to our correspondents, that with the ceasing of the rains and possibly, the lifting of the ban on international flights, work will start in Ernest in the site.
Ozo Akudo Enem, an indigene whose abode was relatively close to the erosion site, was particularly assured by sen. Ekweremadu that the road construction contractors will ensure the prevention of further damages by the erosion.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu and Hon. Toby Okechukwu have done several interventions to alleviate the sufferings of thier constituents and also trying to balance other development challenges.
