The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, has assured residents that the administration led by Governor Douye Diri will continue to implement development projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens before the end of its tenure in 2028.
Akpe gave the assurance on Monday while receiving members of the Bayelsa Elders Council at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.
He noted that although the administration, popularly known as the Assured Prosperity government, has recorded notable achievements since it assumed office in February 2020, it remains committed to pursuing more development initiatives with renewed determination.
The deputy governor thanked the Elders Council for its continued support and collaboration with the state government, stressing that sustained cooperation between both parties is necessary to achieve the shared vision of building a safer, more prosperous Bayelsa.
Describing the visit as significant, Akpe expressed appreciation to the elders and other stakeholders in the state for their encouragement and guidance. He also urged them to continue offering advice and support to help the administration deliver more results.
Referring to the wisdom of elders, he said their guidance remains crucial to governance, adding that their counsel would help the government strengthen its development efforts as it works to conclude its tenure successfully.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Bayelsa Elders Council and former Deputy Governor of the state, Gboribiogha John Jonah, said the council’s role includes partnering with the government to promote development across the state.
Jonah congratulated Akpe on his appointment as deputy governor and assured him of the council’s continued support for initiatives aimed at advancing the state’s growth.
The delegation to Government House included Vice Chairman Zee Debekeme, Secretary-General Douyi Douglas Naingba, Andrew Oputa, Francis Sikoki, Love Amaseimogha, Josephine Igodo, Augustine Lugbenwei, Georgina Ngeri-Nwagha and Cecilia Olisa.
Also present at the meeting were top government officials including Acting Chief of Staff, Irorodamie Komonibo, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Gowon Toruyouyei, and the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai.
