“Awgu Local Government Dismisses Herdsmen Attack Claim, Urges Residents to Ignore False Narratives, Warns Against Fake News Saboteurs”

The Awgu Local Government Council has firmly dismissed as false and misleading a viral report alleging a deadly herdsmen attack at Awgu Junction along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, reassuring residents that the area remains peaceful and secure.

In a statement issued and signed by the Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the Council described the widely circulated video and accompanying claims as a calculated attempt to incite fear, spread panic, and destabilize public confidence.

According to the statement, comprehensive security briefings from relevant agencies confirmed that no such incident occurred as portrayed in the viral content.

“The claim is entirely unfounded and should be disregarded by the public. It is a deliberate fabrication aimed at undermining the peace, unity, and security we have collectively built in Awgu,” the statement emphasized.

The Council condemned in strong terms the dissemination of unverified and inflammatory information, warning individuals and groups involved in spreading such falsehoods to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.

Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Council assured residents that Awgu remains under constant surveillance, with security agencies maintaining a high level of vigilance to forestall any threat to public safety.

Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and continue their daily activities without fear, while relying only on credible and official sources for information.

The statement further called on the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that collective vigilance remains crucial in sustaining peace and order across the local government area.

The Council also commended the strong collaboration between local authorities and security agencies, noting that such synergy continues to play a vital role in preserving stability and ensuring the safety of all residents.

The Council concluded by urging citizens to reject fear-driven narratives and join hands with government and security agencies in safeguarding the unity, peace, and continued progress of Awgu Local Government Area.
