Amusan wins fifth consecutive national 100m hurdles title in Lagos

World record holder, Tobi Amusan, claimed her fifth national title in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials, held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.

The 28-year-old sprinted out of the blocks with speed and precision, crossing the finish line in 12.57 seconds. Rising star Adaobi Tabugbo followed with 13.03s, while Faith Osamuyi placed third with 13.36s.

Amusan’s victory reaffirms her dominance in the event as she intensifies preparations for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.

In the men’s 400m final, Gafar Badmus emerged champion with a time of 45.71s, beating Ezekiel Asuquo (46.29s) and David Akhalu (46.91s) to second and third places, respectively.

There was a major surprise in the women’s 400m as veteran Patience Okon-George was disqualified. African U-20 champion Favour Onyah took advantage of the opportunity, winning the race in 52.69s. Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna came in second and third.

In the women’s 100m, African U-20 champion, Chioma Nweke dethroned Olayinka Olajide to claim a maiden national title after coasting to victory in 11.27s. Olajide ran 11.39s to pick second spot while Iyanuoluwa Bada was third in 11.45s.
