Awgu, Enugu State — Joy, songs, and ululations swept across Awgu Local Government Area as the 2025 August Annual Women’s Meetings turned into a celebration of leadership, inclusiveness, and renewed hope for community development.

The atmosphere was electrified as the Executive Chairman of Awgu LGA, Hon. Uche Joseph Okolo, stormed more than 16 communities with his team, bringing encouragement, financial support, and heartfelt assurances to women across the council.

This year’s August meetings carried a unique flavor of jubilation, not only because of the cultural significance but also because of the Chairman’s recognition of the vital role women play in governance, family life, and community building. Hon. Okolo, while addressing gatherings of joyful mothers and daughters, described women as “the backbone of every society and a pillar of strength behind every successful government.”

In alignment with the inclusive grassroots policies of His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Awgu Council Chairman reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring that no community is left behind in the ongoing transformation sweeping through Enugu State. He particularly commended Governor Mbah for the “mouth-watering and people-centered projects” spread across Awgu and the state at large — including the Smart Green Schools, modern road networks, and health interventions that are already changing lives.

Hon. Okolo also stressed that his administration will continue to complement the governor’s strides by channeling development right into the grassroots. “Our women are partners in progress,” he declared, “and their continuous support for Governor Mbah’s vision of good governance, accountability, and inclusive growth will never go unrewarded.”

The women, overwhelmed with joy, received cash gifts to support their August meeting programs and entrepreneurial engagements. They danced, prayed, and expressed gratitude to Hon. Okolo for his open-door leadership style and recognition of their efforts, while also hailing Governor Mbah for the massive infrastructural renaissance ongoing in Awgu communities.

Speaking on behalf of the jubilant women, community leaders promised continued loyalty and support for both the Council Chairman and the Governor, noting that their partnership has already brought visible transformation to Awgu.
