Enugu, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Enugu State chapter, has launched a blistering attack on the Nigerian Senate over its alleged rejection of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of election results, describing the move as an early stage of rigging the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the party accused lawmakers of sabotaging the will of Nigerians and deliberately blocking reforms that could guarantee transparent and credible elections.
The statement, signed by the National Coordinator of ADC Like-Minds, Comrade Adolphus Ude, on behalf of the Enugu ADC Media Team, alleged that the Senate was acting in line with the agenda of the executive arm of government rather than representing the interests of the people.
“The refusal to pass this critical amendment is not accidental; it is a calculated attempt to weaken the electoral process and retain power beyond 2027,” the party declared.
The ADC argued that Nigerians, particularly the people of the South-East, have consistently demanded a technology-driven electoral system to eliminate manipulation associated with manual collation of results.
Questioning the commitment of lawmakers to democratic principles, the party asked: “Where are the checks and balances? Where is the separation of powers?”
The party warned that failure to adopt mandatory electronic transmission would deepen public distrust in the electoral system and further fuel voter apathy across the country.
Calling on South-East senators to act decisively, the ADC insisted that Nigeria cannot afford another election riddled with controversy and allegations of fraud.
The party concluded that real-time electronic transmission of results remains the most effective tool to restore credibility to Nigeria’s electoral process and safeguard the future of the nation’s democracy.
