ADC Hosts Coalition Summit in Abia Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners held a strategic political summit in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, presenting a united front in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, announced the formal adoption of the ADC as the coalition’s official political platform. He described the move as not merely a political alignment, but a decisive response to what he termed the failures of the current APC-led administration.

“This coalition is a direct response to years of governance failure, economic collapse, and the alienation of citizens from the democratic process,” Obinna stated. “ADC has been chosen to correct the wrongs imposed by the APC. Unemployment is rampant, the naira continues to lose value, and civil servants are subjected to a disgraceful minimum wage.”

Obinna emphasized that the coalition’s mission is to bring relief to Nigerians, eliminate hunger, and restore the country to a path of prosperity. He called for a political reawakening in Abia and beyond, championing leadership built on integrity, equity, and accountability.

“Since 1999, our vision in Abia has been to entrust governance to men and women of integrity who can rebuild Nigeria with justice and fairness. Good governance must be anchored in transparency and moral uprightness,” he added.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a political scholar and reform advocate, stressed the importance of civic engagement and inclusive governance. He condemned the continued marginalisation of the South East and called for rotational leadership, fair representation, and policy-driven political discourse.

“We must reject vote-buying, tokenism, and deceptive promises,” Professor Afamefuna warned. “Only through active citizen accountability can Nigeria forge a better future.”

Also speaking at the summit, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate in Abia, urged coalition leaders to thoroughly vet political aspirants and guard against the infiltration of corrupt elements.
