Adamawa begins evacuation of Unijos students over insecurity

The Adamawa State government has begun evacuating its indigenes studying at the University of Jos.

This follows the uncertain security situation in Jos city after a series of attacks that directly affected some students and prompted the university management to suspend all activities.

A statement issued on Saturday by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the evacuation is being conducted under heavy security, with police escorts deployed to ensure the safe movement of the students out of the affected parts of Jos.

Wonosikou stressed that the move is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding the lives of Adamawa students.

The latest report on the Jos crisis indicates that tragedy struck again on the night of Friday, April 3, when gunmen stormed Nyango Gyel, a rural community in Jos South Local Government Area, killing three people.

According to the report, the attackers invaded the community around 10:40 pm on Friday, firing sporadically before fleeing into the darkness.

DAILY POST reports that the latest rounds of attacks in the frequently troubled capital city of Jos began on the evening of Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, when gunmen opened fire on people in the streets of Angwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area.

It was a night when many were returning from Palm Sunday church services, with victims falling into the hands of the evasive attackers who apparently targeted the usually busy locality.

Over 26 persons have been reported dead so far as a result

of the attacks.
