In line with a long-standing tradition anchored on compassion and service, the traditional ruler of Egwu Achi Kingdom, Igwe Victor Ezekwesili Meniru, on December 24, 2025, led the annual palliative distribution exercise at the King’s Palace in Egwu Achi Kingdom, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with UgamaTV, the monarch explained that the initiative is a yearly humanitarian programme he has sustained for over 15 years, even before ascending the throne. According to him, the exercise is motivated by compassion and a lifelong commitment to the welfare, empowerment, and wellbeing of women in Egwu Achi Kingdom.
He noted that supporting women and vulnerable members of society remains central to his leadership philosophy, adding that the annual distribution has become a dependable means of easing hardship and strengthening communal bonds, especially during the festive season.
Also speaking, Ugoeze Franka Meniru described the exercise as a true reflection of the Igwe’s consistent concern for women and families. She observed that the initiative has, over the years, become a source of hope, encouragement, and stability for many households in the kingdom.
In another interview, Onowu Edmond Nwabuike commended the monarch’s leadership, describing the palliative distribution as well-organized and impactful. His wife, Ezinne R. I. Nwabuike, added that the initiative has consistently brought relief and reassurance to women across the kingdom.
The Igwe’s mother, Mrs. Comfort Meniru, stated that her son’s passion for supporting women and the less privileged began long before he became Igwe, describing the programme as a reflection of his character, values, and upbringing.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Lauretta Elekwechi, who is the APC Women Leader of Achi Ward 4, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the women. She described the yearly gesture as a meaningful intervention that continues to uplift women and promote unity within the community.
Similarly, Honourable Ezenwa Chiemerie, APC Ward Chairman of Achi Ulo Ward 4, praised the sustained efforts of the Igwe, describing the initiative as a clear demonstration of people-oriented leadership and genuine community service.
The exercise was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner, with community leaders present to ensure fairness, transparency, and smooth coordination. Among dignitaries in attendance were former Enugu State PDP Secretary Hon. Cletus Akalusi, and the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, alongside other stakeholders.
