Youth Leaders Urge EFCC Chair to Intensify War Against Corruption After N566 Billion Recovery

The Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council Worldwide (NEYLWC) has urged the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, to sustain the fight against graft in the country.

The organisation spoke in reaction to the EFCC’s recovery of over N566 billion, along with other currencies and assets in the past two years. According to them, such renewed commitment and resolve by the Commission to tackle economic and financial crimes — which had for too long plagued the nation — should be supported by all Nigerians.

It could be recalled that at the recent press briefing marking Mr. Olukoyede’s second anniversary in office, he announced the feat achieved under his leadership within two years.

Reacting, NEYLWC, in a statement signed by Comrade Terry Obieh (President General), Mazi Okwu Nnabuike (National Publicity Secretary), and Comrade Hamisu Muhammad Dass (Vice President), said that as youth leaders of diverse ethnic nationalities across Nigeria, they “recognize the immense challenges faced by the EFCC, as well as the courage it takes to take bold steps against entrenched corruption in both public and private sectors.”

They extended full support to Mr. Olukoyede and the entire EFCC team in their efforts to restore integrity to the nation’s financial systems.

“We encourage the EFCC to remain resolute and undeterred by any distractions, whether political or otherwise, in the pursuit of justice.

“The future of Nigeria depends on the eradication of corruption, and we believe that with Mr. Olukoyede at the helm, the EFCC will continue to make groundbreaking progress in ensuring that the rule of law prevails and that those who engage in financial crimes are held accountable.

“We also urge all well-meaning Nigerians to support the EFCC in its mission to create a transparent and accountable system. Our collective efforts in strengthening the fight against corruption will ensure that Nigeria’s resources are used to serve the people, particularly the youth who are the future leaders of this great nation,” they further stated.
