The Yobe State Police Command has issued fresh directives aimed at strengthening professionalism, discipline and accountability among its officers, with a renewed crackdown on extortion, improper dressing and lapses in arms management.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, gave the directives during a strategic meeting with senior officers, area commanders, divisional police officers and heads of departments at the State Police Headquarters in Damaturu.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the meeting was held to relay directives from the Inspector-General of Police following the recent National Strategic Conference with Commissioners of Police and the Force Management Team.

While commending officers for their efforts in tackling crime, CP Jibrin stressed that professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights must remain the foundation of policing in Yobe State.

He declared zero tolerance for extortion and other unethical practices, warning that any officer found guilty would face disciplinary action.

The police commissioner also directed officers in charge of formations to ensure proper custody, supervision and accountability of arms and ammunition, while emphasising the responsible use of force in line with Nigeria Police standards.

Jibrin urged officers to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, transport unions and civil society groups to improve community policing and intelligence gathering.

He further directed that greater attention be given to the School Protection Initiative through regular engagement with school authorities to enhance the safety of schools across the state.

Expressing concern over violations of the Force’s dress code, the commissioner cautioned officers against the unauthorised use of detachable name tags, desert boots and other forms of improper dressing, noting that the appearance and conduct of personnel play a key role in shaping public confidence in the police.
