The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed allegations that the ruling party is behind the internal crises and defections affecting opposition parties.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Yilwatda said the APC had no role in Peter Obi’s movement across different political parties.

He maintained that the APC neither forced Obi out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor compelled him to leave the Labour Party or join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Nobody in APC chased Peter Obi out of PDP. Nobody from APC chased him out of the Labour Party. Nobody in APC chased him out of the Labour Party to ADC. Who chased him from ADC again to the NDC?” he said.

Yilwatda argued that the former Anambra State governor had been changing political parties long before the APC came to power at the federal level.

He also rejected claims that recent defections from the APC indicate weakening support for the party, insisting that most politicians who left did so to secure electoral tickets rather than because of ideological differences.

According to him, the APC remains united and continues to attract Nigerians, adding that one year into his tenure as national chairman, the party has delivered on key promises aimed at strengthening its internal structure and broadening its appeal.
