Windstorm Wreaks Havoc on Schools in Funtua, Katsina State

A powerful windstorm has caused widespread destruction to several schools in the Funtua area of Katsina State, leaving a trail of damage to educational infrastructure and staff residences.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the government expressed deep sympathy to all those affected — including school staff, students, and their families.

“With deep sorrow and full submission to the will of Allah,” the statement reads, “the Ministry announces the severe impact of the windstorm that struck the Funtua Senatorial Zone on June 22, 2025. Multiple schools and staff quarters suffered extensive damage as a result of the storm.”

Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, offered prayers for relief and strength for the affected communities and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting them during this difficult period.

She also called on school authorities to maintain academic activities and student attendance, stressing the importance of educational continuity even in challenging circumstances.

The Ministry confirmed that damage assessments are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as recovery plans are developed.
