Wike Kick-starts Capital City Renewal with 12 New Roads, Solar Lighting Plan

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday, September 18, 2025, kick-start the construction of 12 new roads and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the Federal Capital City (FCC) and key expressways under the Light Up Abuja Programme.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister will also commission completed access roads in Sector Centre B (Dakibiyu District) and the newly constructed Roads ILS 11 (Esther Bali Street) and MAR 24 (Kez Udezue Street) in Mabushi District.

Olayinka revealed that between September 18 and October 16, 2025, Wike will commission two completed projects and flag off 14 new projects.

Under the Light Up Abuja initiative, integrated (hybrid) solar streetlights will be installed across key districts:

Lot I: Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District (CBD), and Airport Expressway

Lot II: Katampe, Garki I & II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension

The minister will also launch several major infrastructure projects, including:

Full-scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II

Construction of Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III

Provision of access road to Mabushi Bus Terminal (Cadastral Zone B06; Phase II FCC)

Provision of engineering infrastructure to outstanding layouts in Guzape A09 Lots I and II (AIT Neighborhood, Asokoro A04 District)

Construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), including Road ILS 5 within Katampe District

Design and construction of residences for heads of courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT, and the President of the Industrial Court

This fresh round of projects follows a series of recent infrastructure rollouts.

Four weeks ago, Wike flagged off the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, beginning with Bwari Township and Karu Town.

Two weeks ago, he launched the construction of a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi District, and the emergency reconstruction of the Karu Road from the Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, including rehabilitation of additional critical roads in Karu satellite town.

The FCT Administration says these projects reinforce its commitment to modernising infrastructure, improving connectivity, and ensuring sustainable urban development across the nation’s capital.
