UNILAG Mourns Faculty of Education President Swept Away by Strong Wave at Lagos Beach

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) community has been thrown into deep mourning following the tragic death of Balogun Damilola, President of the Faculty of Education, who died in a beach accident on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

According to multiple social media reports, Damilola, popularly known as Ayanfe Eledumare, was attempting a backflip near the shoreline while recording a video when a powerful wave suddenly pulled him into the sea.

Witnesses said frantic efforts to rescue him failed. His body was recovered the next morning at Museyo Beach, Ibeju-Lekki, about two kilometres from where the incident occurred.

The heartbreaking news has triggered an outpouring of grief across the UNILAG campus, as students and friends mourn his vibrant personality and promising leadership. Damilola had recently assumed office as Faculty President, after serving as Vice President the previous year.

A close associate and former roommate, identified on X as Doyindoski, wrote:

“He was my roommate. Always brought Lacoco and the likes to the room. A real vibe, man. And bro just became the President of his faculty… RIP Balogun Damilola.”

As of Monday afternoon, UNILAG authorities and local security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
