A senior lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Samuel Ojogbo, is currently under investigation over allegations of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old undergraduate.
Police sources confirmed that the 300-level student lodged a formal complaint on August 28, 2025, alleging that Dr. Ojogbo assaulted her in his office on August 22 around noon. She claimed the lecturer forcibly violated her before she was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The UNILAG management has acknowledged the case, confirming that it was officially reported to the police. The institution also disclosed that its Safeguarding Centre is providing support and counselling to the victim.
In an official statement, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of UNILAG’s Communication Unit, said the university has set up an investigative panel to review the allegations and assured that the findings will be made public.
“The University of Lagos remains committed to a safe and supportive environment for all students. A thorough investigation will be carried out, and justice will be ensured,” she stated.
Alaga-Ibraheem further urged students and staff to report any incidents of harassment or misconduct through the university’s established channels, stressing UNILAG’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual harassment.
The outcome of the investigation will determine the next steps, but UNILAG has pledged transparency and accountability as it seeks to uphold its commitment to student safety.
