The Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s presidency will one day come to the Southeast, but only at the appointed time.
Speaking on Saturday during a courtesy visit from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who led a federal delegation to Ebonyi to inspect ongoing projects, Umahi urged the region to re-engage politically and avoid relying on sentiment.
> “We have to support other regions, and at the time of God, nobody will stop it,” he said.
In a lighter tone, Umahi added: “And who knows, you know, whether that time it will be me.”
The Works Minister also commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, noting that inflation had dropped to 21.8% and Nigeria’s foreign reserves had risen above $40 billion. He said these improvements have been acknowledged by international institutions and global figures, including the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Contrasting current developments with his days as governor, Umahi remarked that the Southeast was now witnessing tangible federal presence through infrastructural projects, something he claimed was absent during his tenure as state chief executive.
