Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has expressed concern that her new social media challenge for her single Hot Body might attract conspiracy theories and false allegations.
Taking to her X handle, the singer wrote: “I better not get any mami water allegation because of this hot body video.”
The Hot Body challenge, which involves young women dancing and flaunting their bodies while the track plays, has been met with mixed reactions online. While many fans have embraced it, critics have accused the singer of promoting nudity. Fellow artiste Jaywon recently questioned her fashion choices, asking if she lacked parental guidance.
Ayra Starr, who recently signed to American mogul Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, hinted that the unconventional nature of the trend could trigger unfounded claims. Her fears echo past controversies involving her label mate, Rema.
In 2023, Rema faced a storm of online allegations after being accused of using “satanic” and “Illuminati” symbols during his headline concert at London’s O2 Arena. He later clarified that the horse and mask used in his performance were replicas of Benin cultural artifacts, including the famous Queen Idia mask.
In a March 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, Rema further debunked rumours of devil worship, Illuminati ties, and blood-drinking rituals, insisting his artistry was rooted in culture and creativity.
