Ukrainian Sniper Sets New World Record With 13,000-Foot Kill

A Ukrainian sniper unit has reportedly set a new world record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, eliminating Russian troops from a staggering distance of more than 13,000 feet.

According to military sources, the record-breaking shot was executed on August 14 in the embattled Pokrovsk region of Donetsk, an area that has seen fierce clashes as Russian forces step up their offensive. Two Russian soldiers were said to have been struck during the operation.

The sniper used a domestically produced 14.5mm “Alligator” rifle—an advanced long-range weapon system developed in Ukraine and designed for extreme precision at unprecedented distances. Officials revealed that the strike was not only reliant on the weapon’s superior firepower but was also supported by artificial intelligence and real-time drone reconnaissance, which provided targeting accuracy over the vast distance.

The achievement surpasses the previous record of approximately 12,400 feet, also held by a Ukrainian sniper, who used a cutting-edge rifle known as the Horizon’s Lord to neutralize a Russian soldier. That earlier record stood as a testament to the evolving technological sophistication of Ukraine’s sniper program during the ongoing war.

Pokrovsk, once home to over 60,000 residents, has become a focal point of renewed hostilities. The Ukrainian military has intensified defensive operations in the area, even as civilian evacuations continue amid heavy bombardments.

The timing of the operation is also drawing international attention, occurring just a day before a highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Observers suggest that the symbolic achievement underscores Ukraine’s resilience and military innovation ahead of sensitive diplomatic engagements.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to travel to Washington, D.C., on Monday for talks with President Trump. The meeting is expected to focus on strategies to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and accelerate efforts to bring the protracted war to an end.

Military analysts believe that beyond its symbolic value, the record-setting shot highlights the growing role of AI, drones, and indigenous weapon development in modern warfare. It also signals Ukraine’s determination to maintain tactical advantages against a numerically superior Russian force.
