The Ondo State Government has announced the introduction of a mobile application aimed at curbing the spread of fake news and misinformation across the state.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure, the state capital. He noted that the innovation is in line with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s digital transformation agenda and commitment to deepening citizen–government engagement in the state.
According to Ajanaku, the new app will serve multiple functions beyond checking fake news. “It will facilitate opinion polls, gather grassroots news, and act as a feedback mechanism, enabling the people to communicate directly with government,” he explained in the statement signed by the ministry’s Information Manager, Abiodun Omotoso.
The commissioner stressed that combating misinformation has become crucial in today’s fast-paced information age, adding that the platform will help build trust and transparency between government and the people.
Beyond tackling fake news, Ajanaku revealed that the state is embarking on a broader campaign against social vices, which he described as a drive for “moral rebirth.” The campaign will be all-inclusive, involving market women, students, religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil servants, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
He further announced that eminent Ondo indigenes who have distinguished themselves in various fields will be unveiled as “Omoluabi Ambassadors of Ondo State”, serving as role models to inspire discipline, integrity, and hard work among younger generations.
In a related development, the government has approved the procurement of a state-of-the-art transmitter for the Ondo State RadioVision Corporation (OSRC) Television. Ajanaku said the upgrade will significantly improve signal quality, expand coverage, and fast-track the station’s inclusion on DSTV, thereby boosting the visibility of the state’s voice in national discourse.
To ensure the voices of citizens across the 203 wards in the state are heard, the commissioner disclosed that ad-hoc media officers will be deployed as grassroots correspondents. Their responsibility, he said, will be to bridge the gap between government and rural communities, ensuring inclusivity in decision-making.
Reiterating Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to the OUR EASE agenda, Ajanaku assured residents that the government remains focused on delivering tangible dividends of good governance that will be evenly felt across all localities.
“This is a new dawn for Ondo State,” he declared, emphasizing that the initiatives collectively signal a shift towards digital governance, stronger ethical values, and a more robust media environment.
