The Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has sounded the alarm over continued cross-border attacks on communities in Benue State, alleging that the assailants often launch assaults from neighbouring Nasarawa State and retreat there afterward.
The monarch made the revelation on Tuesday during the official visit of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, to Benue as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) outreach.
“Your Excellency Ma, our attackers come from Nasarawa State. After attacking us, they withdraw and go back to Nasarawa State,” Prof. Ayatse stated, addressing the First Lady in the presence of traditional council members and state officials.
The Tor Tiv appealed to Mrs. Tinubu to convey the concerns of the Tiv people to President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that true peace in the region can only be achieved through firm and strategic federal intervention.
He also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her show of solidarity and her humanitarian support to victims of violence and displacement in the state.
In response, Senator Tinubu, visibly moved by the monarch’s concerns, pledged to take the message directly to the president. She reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to restoring peace, supporting affected communities, and continuing the mission of the Renewed Hope Initiative to uplift vulnerable Nigerians.
