Tinubu Signs Electoral Act Amendments, Says Changes Aim to Boost Nigeria’s Democracy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the 2022 Electoral Act amendments, stating that the changes are designed to enhance Nigeria’s democratic process, rather than serve party interests. The amendments aim to strengthen electoral procedures, address gaps in the framework, and increase transparency, credibility, and public trust.

Tinubu emphasized that the changes are process-oriented, focusing on improving institutional procedures and providing clarity for election administrators and voters. He stressed the importance of promoting public trust in elections through robust legislative frameworks and credible implementation.

The President called on citizens to have confidence in the electoral process, saying, “When citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted.” He pledged his administration’s continued efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions, thanking the National Assembly for their collaboration.
