President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the State House, Abuja, following the deadly attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The meeting came in the aftermath of Monday’s violent assault, which claimed the lives of more than 160 residents in an attack allegedly carried out by suspected jihadist militants.
Sources at the State House said the engagement was part of ongoing security consultations focused on the deteriorating situation in Kwara State, with emphasis on urgent federal intervention to contain the violence and restore normalcy.
Earlier, on Wednesday, President Tinubu deployed an army battalion to Kaiama and approved the establishment of a new military outpost to strengthen Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and protecting vulnerable communities.
The president condemned the killings, describing them as a barbaric attack on innocent villagers who had rejected extremist ideology in favour of peaceful Islamic practices. He also directed enhanced collaboration between federal and state authorities to support victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
In a separate development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State also met with the president. However, details of their discussions were not disclosed as of press time.
