The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has renewed his appeal for traditional rulers to be formally recognised in Nigeria’s constitution, arguing that clearly defined constitutional roles would enhance governance and promote harmony between government and traditional institutions.
The monarch made the call during a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos House, Marina.
Oba Ladoja clarified that there is no disagreement between the traditional institution and the Oyo State Government, explaining that his push for constitutional inclusion is intended to strengthen collaboration and improve governance at the grassroots level. He also said the visit was an opportunity to thank Governor Sanwo-Olu for his support and contributions during his coronation last year.
The Olubadan commended the Lagos State governor for what he described as remarkable infrastructural development across the state.
Responding, Governor Sanwo-Olu described Ibadan as the cultural heartbeat and rallying point of the Yoruba people. He expressed appreciation for the visit and praised Oba Ladoja’s leadership, particularly his role in fostering peace, stability, and unity in Oyo State and beyond.
The governor noted that traditional rulers remain key partners in governance and community development, stressing that their involvement is vital to sustaining social harmony and long-term progress.
