President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday welcomed Nigeria’s victorious Super Falcons to the State House in Abuja, following their triumphant win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final in Rabat, Morocco.
The team, captained by Rasheedat Ajibade and led by head coach Justin Madugu, arrived at the Presidential Villa at 4:35 p.m., where they received a warm reception in honor of their record-breaking 10th WAFCON title.
Their visit comes in fulfillment of President Tinubu’s promise made during a post-match video call on Sunday. During that call, the president congratulated the team and expressed eagerness to receive them and the trophy in Abuja.
“I am very, very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You have lifted our spirits. You are a pride to your generation, and we are all very happy,” Tinubu said, adding, “You will be celebrated.”
The Super Falcons made history with a thrilling 3-2 victory over host nation Morocco, further solidifying their status as the most decorated women’s football team on the African continent.
