President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved key appointments into the management of two newly upgraded federal universities of education in Kano and Zaria.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President appointed Engr. Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State.
Also appointed was Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage, who will serve as the Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
At the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, the President named Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice Chancellor. Bunkure, a renowned academic specialising in science education, is currently the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kano.
The two institutions, alongside two others, were upgraded from Colleges of Education into full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023, as part of federal efforts to strengthen teacher education and research.
In line with governing regulations, the Pro-Chancellor will serve a four-year term, while the Vice Chancellors will hold office for five years.
