The Iconic Enugu Coal City Masquerades Celebrate Governor Mbah in Grand Solidarity, Light Up Chairman Okolo’s Residence in a Spectacular Easter Visit

A powerful wave of culture, unity, and political solidarity swept through Enugu as the iconic Coal City Masquerades staged a grand Easter visit to the residence of the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, in a vibrant show of support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

The colourful outing, held at WTC Estate, evolved beyond a traditional display into a bold cultural endorsement, as the masquerade troupe—accompanied by drummers and performers—delivered an electrifying spectacle symbolizing collective appreciation and solidarity with the governor’s leadership.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as residents and guests gathered in large numbers, witnessing a unique fusion of heritage and political expression. The performances, rich in symbolism and tradition, reflected a deep-rooted connection between cultural identity and contemporary governance.

Receiving the troupe, Hon. Okolo praised Governor Mbah for his transformative leadership and far-reaching infrastructural development across Enugu State. He described the governor as a firm believer in cultural preservation and a leader whose vision continues to inspire confidence among the people.

The Chairman disclosed plans to engage the state government in formalizing the masquerade celebration as a major annual Easter Monday event, positioning it as both a cultural festival and a platform for strengthening grassroots solidarity.

Reinforcing his stance, Hon. Okolo publicly reaffirmed his unwavering support for Governor Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the administration’s achievements as worthy of continuity. In a further demonstration of commitment, he announced a donation of ₦1 million to the masquerade group to support their cultural initiatives.

Speaking on behalf of the troupe, cultural custodian Chief Ndubuisi Ejoh emphasized the enduring importance of masquerade traditions in Igbo society, noting that the Easter Monday celebration serves not only as a remembrance of ancestral heritage but also as a unifying force that brings communities together in shared identity and purpose.

The event featured a stunning parade of elaborately adorned masquerades whose rhythmic dances and dramatic performances captivated the audience. Their movements, steeped in symbolism, conveyed messages of pride, continuity, and collective strength.

Residents described the occasion as both exhilarating and meaningful, highlighting its dual role in preserving cultural heritage and reinforcing public support for progressive leadership. Many noted that such gatherings strengthen communal bonds while amplifying the voice of the people in support of governance that delivers impact.

Widely respected for their cultural influence, the Coal City Masquerades once again demonstrated their significance as ambassadors of Enugu’s rich traditions—this time blending heritage with a resounding message of solidarity.

The event ultimately stood as a compelling testament to how culture can serve not only as a bridge between generations but also as a powerful instrument for unity, civic engagement, and collective endorsement of purposeful leadership.
