The Buck Stops at Tinubu’s Table”: Ejimakor Says President Holds the Key to Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom

Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the power to end his client’s prolonged trial.

Ejimakor stated this on Monday in a post on his official X handle, saying that the president could stop the prosecution if he truly wished to bring the matter to an end.

“As it stands, it lies with President Tinubu to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu because once the President halts the prosecution, the trial ends,” Ejimakor wrote.

“In other words, the buck stops at the President’s table.”

He, however, noted that while the decision rests with the president, the courts also have a role to play in ensuring justice.

“Nonetheless, the courts can step in to stem the tide of injustice,” he added.

His comment came as pro-Biafra supporters held peaceful protests across parts of the Southeast and the Nigeria’s capital, Abuja on Monday to demand Kanu’s release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he has been detained since June 2021.
