Stronger Numbers, Stronger Voice: Okolo Declares APC E-Registration a Strategic Investment in Awgu’s Political Future

The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has issued a passionate call to Ndi Awgu to rise in unity and actively participate in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership e-registration exercise, describing it as a strategic pathway to political inclusion, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable development.

Hon. Okolo made the call on Friday, January 31, 2026, during the APC expanded monthly stakeholders’ meeting held at the Awgu Local Government Council Headquarters, where party leaders, stakeholders, and members converged to review the progress of the e-registration exercise.

Addressing the gathering, the council chairman stressed that the future of Awgu depends not only on government policies but also on the collective participation of its people in shaping the political and developmental direction of the local government.

“This is not just a party exercise; it is a community project and a political investment in the future of Awgu. When our people are fully registered and represented, our voice becomes stronger, our opportunities expand, and our development accelerates,” Hon. Okolo declared.

Call to Stakeholders, Women, Youths, and Community Leaders

The chairman urged traditional rulers, political stakeholders, women leaders, youth groups, town unions, market associations, professionals, and community-based organizations to mobilize their members for massive participation in the APC e-registration process.

He emphasized that women and youths, as the backbone of grassroots development, must not be left behind, noting that their active involvement would strengthen Awgu’s political relevance and bargaining power at the state and national levels.

According to him, widespread participation in the e-registration exercise will position Awgu more strategically to attract government projects, social interventions, and infrastructural development.

Concern Over Low Registration Figures

Hon. Okolo expressed deep concern over the declining performance of Awgu in the APC e-registration exercise, describing the situation as disappointing and unacceptable.

He revealed that Awgu Local Government, which initially ranked second in the state during the early stage of the exercise, has dropped to the 11th position.

“Some local governments have recorded over 26,000 registered members, while Awgu is still struggling at about 13,000. This is heartbreaking. How can we fall from second position to eleventh? I am personally not happy with where we are today,” he lamented.

He further emphasized party unity, stressing that there is only one APC.

“There is nothing like old or new APC. We are one party, and we must work together to move it forward,” he said.

Practical Steps to Boost Registration

The council chairman explained that the e-registration process requires a National Identification Number (NIN) and a voter’s card. To address challenges posed by network difficulties, he disclosed that registration forms have been distributed to enable members to submit their details, including names and NINs, for onward processing.

For members without NIN, Hon. Okolo announced that arrangements have been made to register them across all communities in Awgu Local Government Area, with machines deployed to facilitate NIN registration within the remaining seven days of the exercise.

He urged APC members and supporters to seize the opportunity and fully participate in the process as a show of support for the party and the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

“Let us do this collectively in support of our dear governor and for the growth of our great party,” he appealed.

Massive Stakeholder Participation

The well-attended meeting witnessed massive participation of APC stakeholders and leaders across Awgu communities. The meeting was presided over by the APC Caretaker Chairman in Awgu Local Government, Hon. Kenechukwu Okolo.

Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor (CNN), Hon. Dr. Anthony Nwankwo, Hon. Rose Udeh, Chief Ginika Tor, Hon. Nelson Uduji, Hon. Gilbert Chikwado Chukwunta, Hon. Dr. Uche Uzochukwu, Hon. Johnson Chukwuobasi, Dr. Chief Alex Ogbonna, Chief Godwin Okoro, Comr. Anthony Udeh, Hon. Chinedu Oha, Hon. Ifeanyi Chukwu Chukwu, Hon.
