Shock After Baby’s Remains Found in Blocked Pipe at University of Jos Female Hostel

The community of University of Jos in Plateau was thrown into shock on Friday afternoon after the body of a baby was reportedly found inside a drainage channel connected to a female hostel located in the Naraguta area of the campus.

Eyewitnesses said the disturbing discovery triggered strong emotional reactions among students and nearby residents. The situation reportedly began when students complained about a blocked sewage system and an unpleasant smell, which led authorities to call in maintenance workers to check the problem.

A hostel porter, who requested not to be identified, claimed the baby may have been dumped in the toilet after being aborted by an unidentified female student.

According to her account, the incident came to light when plumbers invited to repair the faulty toilet system began investigating the blockage.

She explained that while attempting to locate the cause of the obstruction, the workers had to open parts of the pipe system. During the process, they reportedly found the remains of the baby trapped within the drainage line.

The porter said the discovery left many people stunned, with students expressing disbelief that such an incident could happen within the hostel environment.

Some students who reacted to the development said they were deeply disturbed by the situation, while others called on authorities to conduct a proper investigation to determine who was responsible and ensure the person is brought to justice.

As of the time this report was filed, the management of University of Jos had not released an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to reach the institution’s Public Relations Officer for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not answered.
