Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has dismissed reports linking him to an alleged $75,000 romance scam, describing the claims as false and malicious.
The reports, which surfaced online on Friday, alleged that the actor was invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the FBI over a complaint filed by a 49-year-old American woman, Kimberly Ann. The woman reportedly claimed she had been in an online relationship with him since 2025.
Reacting via his Instagram Story, Ogbonna denied any involvement in internet fraud or romance scams.
“This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I do not support or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity,” he stated.
The actor explained that scammers have repeatedly used his name, photos, and identity to deceive unsuspecting members of the public through fake social media accounts.
He stressed that he has never authorised anyone to represent him online, solicit money on his behalf, or communicate privately while pretending to be him.
Ogbonna urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to impersonators and catfish accounts exploiting his identity for fraudulent activities.
