The Presidency has announced a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Originally set to end on August 31, 2025, Adeniyi’s tenure will now continue for an additional year following the approval by President Bola Tinubu.
According to a statement released on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the extension is aimed at allowing Adeniyi to consolidate key reforms and complete major initiatives currently underway within the Customs Service.
Highlighted among these initiatives are the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“President Tinubu recognises Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read.
The President expressed confidence that the extension will further empower the Customs Service to fulfill its core responsibilities, including trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
