President Tinubu Embarks on Official Visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil

Abuja, Nigeria – June 28, 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a two-nation diplomatic visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships, particularly with Caribbean nations and the Global South.

First Stop: Saint Lucia

President Tinubu will pay a state visit to Saint Lucia, where he is expected to bolster Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations and promote South-South cooperation. During the visit, he will meet with the Governor-General, His Excellency Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.

A major highlight of the visit will be Tinubu’s address to a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly, scheduled to hold at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet. The session will be attended by Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Nigerian community, and members of the diplomatic corps.

The President will also host a high-level working luncheon with OECS leaders, where discussions will focus on enhancing economic partnerships, cultural solidarity, and shared prosperity between Nigeria and the Caribbean.

Additionally, Tinubu will visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote educational collaboration and academic exchange.

This visit aligns with the African Union’s Sixth Region Initiative, which recognises the African diaspora as a key development partner. Nigeria and Saint Lucia share historic ties through the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and a common African ancestry.

Second Stop: Brazil – 17th BRICS Summit

After concluding his engagements in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit from July 6–7, 2025, at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Nigeria will participate as a ‘partner country’, a diplomatic status above that of a guest nation but below full membership. This elevated role highlights Nigeria’s growing strategic relevance within the Global South.

The summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” will focus on advancing social, economic, and environmental development across member and partner states.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials on both legs of the trip.
