Popular Buhari supporter killed, burnt in Anambra, widow fingers errant ex-tenant

A rights activist said to be a supporter of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.),  Kenechukwu Okeke, has been burnt to dead in Anambra State.

Okeke was reportedly hit with machetes by his attackers numbering seven in his compound in Nkpor, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that his assailants poured fuel on his body and set him on fire.

The wife told some journalists that her husband was killed by a former tenant.

She said, “The tenant was living in our house, but when he packed out without our knowledge and asked that be given his remains two months’ rent,  we told him he should have notified us that he was packing out.

“My husband was not around the day he came, but I told him he packed out of the house without our knowledge and would not be given money.

“He threatened to teach my husband a lesson. I called my husband and told him what the boy said and that he should not come to confront him.

“My husband later reported the matter to the Department of State Services and the police and he was made to write an undertaking, but he was still coming to terrorize us. Some time, he will come to our house and break open the gate and come in and pick whatever he wanted to pick.

“One day, he came to our house and my husband confronted him, without knowing that he had many boys with him downstairs, and before my husband could do anything, they macheted him, and the fuel we wanted to pour into our generator, they poured it on him and set him on fire. That was how my husband died.

“Up till now, he has not been arrested. I don’t understand what the police are doing on this matter.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga  Toochukwu, said, “The case has been reported It is a reported, but the matter is still sketchy. Just give me some time; I will get back to you with details of the matter.”

Okeke was a staunch supporter of the Buhari administration, and was said to have backed the Federal Government and its activities during the EndSARS protest in October 2020.
