Political Hallucination”: Presidency Dismisses Claims of Coalition Against Tinubu

The presidency has debunked ongoing speculation about a growing political coalition seeking to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement posted on Wednesday via his X, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, dismissed the claims as mere “political hallucination.”

“To say a political coalition is surging when in fact no one is interested in it is a political hallucination,”Bwala said.

The media aide pointed out that major political figures and institutions have shown no interest in forming such an alliance.

He highlighted the increasing strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the party has been drawing significant opposition figures, including prominent defectors.

“The Governors forum of PDP said they are not interested, the NWC of PDP said same. Peter Obi recently said he is not in any coalition talks, Labour Party people said they are not interested.

“Meanwhile in contrast the party surging is APC; receiving defectors left, right and centre including a former vice presidential candidate of PDP in the 2023 elections

“It is not a coalition, but hallucination,” he wrote.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who secured second place in the 2023 presidential election with 6,984,520 votes, has consistently reaffirmed his determination to lead a strong opposition capable of taking on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle.

President Bola Tinubu’s road to a second term seems increasingly challenging, with growing opposition not only from rival parties but also from dissatisfied figures within the APC.

Prominent among these are former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

Additionally, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai recently renounced his membership in the APC, criticized the Tinubu administration, and joined the Social Democratic Party.

He has since urged like-minded Nigerians to come together and work towards removing the APC in the 2027 election.
