*Political Earthquake: Governor Peter Mbah Leads Mass Defection to APC in Enugu State*

 

In a stunning political maneuver that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, the executive governor of Enugu state Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has officially decamped to the ruling All Progressive Congress from the Peoples Democratic Democratic Party, in a Major political realignment in Enugu state, at the Micheal Okpara square Enugu state on Tuesday the 14th of October 2025.

Gov. Mbah defected to the APC alongside all the commissioners and elected chairpersons of the state’s 17 local government areas, including Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, the Executive Chairman of Awgu LGA. As well as all elected councilors and the entire political family in Enugu state.

The ground-breaking defection, which witnessed the gathering of a mammoth crowd at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, began with an opening prayer and welcome address read by the APC State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr.Ben Nwoye.

articulated the strategic rationale behind his decision: as he emphasized the need to align with a “stronger platform” to effectively actualize his developmental vision for Enugu State, signaling a calculated move to enhance political connectivity and access to national resources.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he said amid cheers from supporters”.

“This is no whimsical decision. It’s a collective move by the political family in Enugu State, comprising members of the National Assembly, members of the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, all the Local Government Chairmen and Councilors, all political appointees, and the entire political family in Enugu state.

In a Goodwill Message of the Progressive Governors’ forum, read by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, expressed excitement at the reception of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah into the ruling party, noting that the members of the Progressive Governors’ forum are happy with his decision to join the APC.

Gov. Hope Further explained that this bold step will strengthen the excellent work of Nigerian President Bola Amed Tinubu in Nigeria and in the South East.

Similarly, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by the Vice President, Sen.Kashim Shettima, affirmed in solidarity with the Governors noting that the APC has nurtured relationships built on trust, accommodating divergent interests, and offering a platform where every Nigerian with noble intentions can find purpose.

Shettima also assured Gov. Mbah of President Tinubu’s full support and inclusion of  Ndigbo and Ndi Enugu into the mainstream of Nigerian politics
The VP also reminded Governor Mba that he was now the leader of the APC in the state in line with the party’s tradition, pointing out that the governor now carries “the noble challenge of rebuilding the APC in, and from, Enugu State.

“You are not just a frontline stakeholder within the state; you are now a leading voice at the national level. Mr President has assured you of his full support, and I want to reaffirm that we stand ready to partner with you in deepening development and democratic dividends for the people of Enugu,” he added.

Other Notable Speakers at the event are Professor Nentawa Yilwatda, the APC National Chairman, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio,  President of the Nigerian Senate, Rt. Hon.Tajudeen Abass, the speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, All, spoke in solidarity as they welcomed Enugu state Governor into the APC Family.

As the event drew to a close, the Former Governor of Enugu State and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Barr. Sulivan Chime, in a vote of thanks, congratulated Gov. Mbah on his Decision to join the ruling noting that his decision marks an end to factionalized politics in the state.

This strategic defection could significantly reshape Enugu’s political dynamics, potentially influencing future electoral strategies and power distributions in the southeastern region.

It represents a bold political statement, underscoring Governor Mbah’s adaptability and strategic political maneuvering in Nigeria’s complex political ecosystem.
