In a swift and coordinated move to address the fast-developing erosion threat along the Oji–Awgu Road (Obeagu–Achi axis), the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, on Wednesday , October 15, 2025, led a joint inspection team to the site to assess the extent of the damage and chart out immediate remedial actions.
He was joined by the Executive Chairman of Oji-River Local Government Area, Hon. Greg Anyaegbudike, alongside the Area Manager of Setraco Construction Company and the Site Manager of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
The inspection comes at a critical time, as the erosion site has deepened significantly, posing a major risk to commuters and transporters who rely on the road for daily movement between Awgu, Oji-River, and neighboring communities.
Residents and commuters expressed relief and confidence in the prompt intervention, describing it as a welcome development that will avert further damage and ensure safer movement along the busy corridor.
Hon. Okolo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to proactive leadership and infrastructural maintenance, stressing that the move aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s grassroots-inclusive development agenda. He noted that his government remains determined to complement the governor’s vision by ensuring that “no stone is left unturned in improving the welfare and safety of our people.”
This joint effort between the two council chairmen and key federal road agencies reflects a new era of intergovernmental collaboration aimed at sustaining Enugu State’s critical road networks and preventing avoidable disasters.
