A new wave of tension has gripped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as policemen on Monday barred members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from accessing the national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The BoT had scheduled a crucial meeting amid growing internal crisis, particularly concerning the dispute over the office of the national secretary and preparations for the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
However, the meeting was abruptly relocated to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District after security operatives sealed off the secretariat.
Speaking to journalists, former PDP National Secretary Umar Tsauri revealed that the police officers stationed at Wadata Plaza claimed they were acting on “orders from above” and had strict instructions not to allow any meeting to hold at the party’s headquarters.
“We came for a scheduled BoT meeting, only to be told by the police that no meeting is allowed here. They said they were acting on instructions,” Tsauri stated.
The incident has deepened concerns about increasing political interference and the internal turmoil threatening the cohesion of Nigeria’s leading opposition party.
As of the time of this report, the PDP leadership has not released an official statement regarding the security blockade or the implications for its planned NEC meeting.
UGAMA TV will continue to follow developments as the PDP leadership navigates this unfolding political standoff.
