The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, over the alleged killing of a community leader in Bauchi metropolis.
The victim, 55-year-old Jacob Bature, was the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas in the Inkil area of Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 19, when the suspect allegedly armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and shot the community leader.
Bature sustained severe gunshot wounds to his right rib area and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Police said the suspected weapon, a locally made single-barrel gun, and one expended cartridge were recovered from the suspect.
According to reports from members of the community, the shooting occurred shortly after a disagreement between the suspect and the victim at a beer parlour. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
