Platform Petroleum Unveils State-of-the-Art ICT Innovation Centre in Rivers, Boosting Digital Access for Niger Delta Youths

Platform Petroleum Limited has inaugurated the O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre for Digital Innovations in Obonoma, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, marking a significant step toward expanding digital infrastructure and empowering young people in the Niger Delta.

The facility, officially commissioned on April 8, 2026, by John Onaiyekan, boasts over 280 interconnected computer systems and is designed to function as a major hub for computer-based testing (CBT) and digital education.

The centre is set to serve residents across Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, and Degema local government areas, easing the burden of traveling to urban centres like Port Harcourt for examinations and other digital services.

Chairman of Platform Petroleum, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who drove the initiative, explained that the project was conceived in response to the rising need for digital skills in today’s technology-driven global economy.

He described the centre as a vital link to global opportunities, stressing that equipping young people with relevant digital competencies is essential in an era shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, and innovation. “We are not merely opening a facility; we are creating access to global possibilities,” he stated.

Named in honour of his father, Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs, the ICT centre forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at promoting education, innovation, and economic advancement in its host communities.

Beyond CBT services, the complex includes dedicated spaces for training, collaboration, and enterprise development, alongside residential and support facilities to enhance learning experiences.

Notable figures at the event included Vice Chairman Ojunekwu Augustine Avuru and Managing Director/CEO John Anim, alongside traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives, and youth stakeholders.

Participants praised the project as a crucial intervention capable of narrowing the digital gap and creating new opportunities for thousands of youths in the region.

Lulu-Briggs urged the host communities to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facility, emphasizing its long-term value. “This centre belongs to you. Protect it, use it, and let it nurture a generation ready to lead,” he added.

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs ICT Centre is being hailed as a transformative investment that could significantly improve access to digital education while strengthening Rivers State’s position as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
