Residents of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, have raised alarms over possible coordinated attacks on several villages ahead of the Easter celebrations and the Zrrechi festival.
According to reports obtained by DAILY POST on Saturday, communities such as Zarwa, Tafigana, Kpachudu, and Kpasho are reportedly at risk. The alerts are based on intelligence and sightings of hundreds of armed men on motorcycles moving toward Mararaban Dare on Friday night, raising concerns of renewed violence during a period historically linked to deadly attacks in the region.
A youth leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the situation has been reported to security agencies. In the meantime, local communities have mobilized vigilante groups to increase night patrols and restricted non-essential movement to protect residents.
Efforts to reach the spokespersons of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) and the Plateau State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not returned before publication.
